The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of discomfort to South Africans and the world at large, the disease which took the world by storm has crippled the economic activities of nations. This has made it life a bit difficult and as a result the South African government has made it possible for those who were affected during the pandemic to get some help by easing their burden with the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

Who Can Make A UIF Claim?

This wasn’t introduced to relief only the unemployed but also those unable to work because of serious illness, adoption leave or maternity and not forgetting the dependents of a deceased contributor.

How Does Unemployed Insurance Fund Works??

Employers who are registered with SARS employees tax must also register with the Unemployment Insurance Fund. Even though there are over 1.5 million employers who contribute to the the Unemployment Insurance Fund, there are still some companies that are not registered. After a company has registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund and wants to make claims for their employees, they need to show an evidence that indicates that they are struggling and needs support.

Who Is Not Qualified For UIF

The Unemployment Insurance Fund has exemptions i.e meaning there are some employees who definitely do not need need them and they are as follows;

  1. A person who is an officer or an employee in a government sector
  2. A person who is a member of the traditional council, a leader or a member of the provincial council of traditional leaders.
  3. The person is a president, his vice president, members of the national assembly, a member of the executive council and so on.

How To Make Claims For UIF

If you are unemployed or have had your hours reduced, you can claim directly from the UIF. The UIF offices are closed, but you can register online at https://www.ufiling.co.za/.
