Requirements for SASSA Foster Child grant.
It is mandatory for an applicant to know the requirements of the Foster Child grant before deciding to apply. These requirements are there to guide the applicant to have a successful application without delay.
The requirements for the SASSA Foster Child grant are below;
i. The applicant who is the Foster parent must be a South African citizen, a permanent resident or a refugee.
ii. The applicant and the child must both live in South Africa.
iii. The child in question should or must be in the care of the foster parent.
iv. The foster parents should have a valid court order indicating the child has legally be placed into their care.

Documents Required For SASSA Foster Child Grant.
There are documents that should be available when applying for the Foster Child grant.
i. The applicant must provide an ID and that of spouse.
ii. The applicant must provide the birth certificate of the foster child. An affidavit may be completed at the SASSA office if the applicant fails to present the birth certificate of the child.
iii. The applicant and the foster child must live in South Africa.
iv. The applicant must be a citizen of South Africa, a permanent resident or refugee.
v. The foster child must not be 18 years and above.
Other Relevant Documents Needed.
Other documents that will be needed by SASSA are as follows;
i. A divorce order if the applicant is no longer married.
ii. On the other hand, a married certificate is needed if the applicant is married.
iii. A spouse death is needed if deceased.
iv. A court order showing the child has been placed in your care in needed.

Means Test For SASSA Foster Child Grant
An applicant needs to pass the SASSA Means Test before he or she can be approved to receive the Foster Child grant. This Means test is done to evaluate the income and assets of the applicant which will determine whether they qualify for the grant or not. Unfortunately passing the means test isn’t a requirement for the Foster Child grant.
SASSA Foster Child Grant Application
To apply for the Foster Child grant application, the applicant needs to visit the nearest SASSA office to pick an application form. The applicant should go with the documents listed above. Follow the steps below to complete your application.
STEP 1: Visit the nearest SASSA office to pick an application form.
STEP 2: A SASSA official will be allocated to you to help you in the filling the application form.

SASSA Foster Child Grant Amount
What is the amount that SASSA gives to Foster Child grant beneficiaries? Well, the South Africa Social Security(SASSA) recently increased the amount that they give to some beneficiaries of the social grants and the Foster Child
The Foster Child Grant which was R1 070 as at October 2022 will be increased to R1120 (April 1 2023) and R1 130 (October 1 2023). There is R50 and R10 addition respectively.
It’s quite unknown whether there will be another increment in some months to come.
SASSA Foster Child Grant Payments
SASSA has three main mode of payments that will serve as a channel for beneficiaries and they are as follows;
i. Payments will be done on a particular day at a specific pay points.
ii. Payment will be sent electronically to the applicant’s bank or post bank account. Kindly note that electronic transfers comes at a charge from the bank in question.
iii. The last payment method is done through institutions acting as an administrator for the grant.
SASSA Foster Child Grant Outcome
After the Means test has been done and the applicant has passed the test, it may take up to 3 months to know the outcome of the application. SASSA will send you a feedback concerning the outcome of the application in writing.

SASSA Foster Child Grant Cause for Suspension
Your application can be suspended for various reasons and they are as follows;
i. The grant application will be suspended if the circumstance of the applicant changes.
ii. When the applicant fails to co-operate with SASSA when the grant is being reviewed.
iii. When the applicant commits fraud or misrepresents him or herself.
iv. When SASSA realizes the grant approval was a mistake.
v. The outcome of the review may cause the application’s suspension.
Reasons for SASSA Foster Child Grant Being Cancelled.
Your applicant can be cancelled due to some reasons and they are listed below;
i. In the case of death.
ii. When the applicant gets admitted into a state institution.
iii. When the beneficiary fails to make claims for the grant for 3 consecutive months.
iv. When the beneficiary is no longer in the country.

Can an applicant appeal after being rejected by SASSA? Yes, you can appeal for the Foster Child grant by writing a letter to the Ministry of Social Development and addressed to the Minister in person stating why you need to be reconsidered for this particular grant.
Benefits of the SASSA Foster Child Grant
The Foster Child grant was introduced to provide some benefits to the veterans and some are;
i. To cater for their upkeep in case an applicant has no source of income.
ii. It also serve as a reward for the work done during those years.
Downsides of the SASSA Foster Child Grant
Even though the grant was introduced to cater for foster children, it has some drawbacks and they include the following;
